Bodysuit, Jumpsuit and Romper Sewing Patterns for Production
Bodysuits and rompers are one-piece garments: if the torso length or the crotch isn't right, the garment pulls in any size. The catalog brings together short- and long-sleeve bodysuits, jumpsuits, jumpers, and overalls for women, athletic bodysuits for girls, and baby rompers, each group with its own size range and a sewn sample.
The Modeltex catalog has 31 bodysuit sewing patterns (23 for women, 4 for girls, 4 for babies), all approved with a sewn sample and with the size range available on each product page; the most affordable PDF starts at US$23 with the standard size selection.
Bodysuits, jumpsuits, and baby rompers in the catalog
There are bodysuits with a ribbed high neck, raglan bodysuits, crew-neck, drop-shoulder, and cowl-neck styles with rings, and bodysuits with tulle sleeves. Among the one-piece garments there are palazzo jumpsuits, one-shoulder jumpsuits, jumpsuits with ruffles, a short knotted jumpsuit, a faux leather halter romper, and corduroy overalls. For babies there are striped bodysuits, bodysuits with a shirt collar and snaps, and hooded footed rompers, with their own size range.
Torso length and crotch: what defines the fit of a bodysuit
The critical measurement on a one-piece garment is the torso length, from shoulder to crotch: if it is too short, the garment pulls at the shoulders and up at the crotch even when the girth is right. It is approved with a sample and checked across the whole size range. On a knit bodysuit the crotch closes with snaps or with a seam; on a high neck in rib knit, measure the neck opening against the head circumference, because the head has to pass through without forcing the fabric.
Bodysuit and jumpsuit fabrics: knit, woven, and tulle
A women's bodysuit is made in knit with spandex, such as cotton spandex, rib knit, or modal, which recover their shape. Jumpsuits are cut in woven fabric, such as crepe, linen, corduroy, gabardine, or faux leather, and need a zipper or an opening so they can be put on. For baby clothes, a light cotton, flat seams, and secure snaps work best; avoid appliqués and ribbons that could come loose. Bodysuits have small pieces and print well on A4; for a run of woven jumpsuits, a true-size plotter PDF avoids taping sheets together.
Common fabrics for bodysuits: cotton spandex, rib knit, modal, crepe, corduroy, tulle.

Frequently asked questions about bodysuit sewing patterns
Which measurement matters most in a bodysuit or romper?
Torso length, measured from the shoulder to the crotch through the center of the body. If it is short, the garment pulls at the crotch and the shoulders, in any size. That's why it is approved with a sewn sample and checked across the whole size range. If you switch to a fabric with less stretch, test the torso length again.
How do you close the crotch of a baby bodysuit?
With snaps on a double layer of fabric, which let you change the baby without taking the whole bodysuit off. The spacing between snaps has to be even in every size, and none should land on a seam. The catalog has baby bodysuits with a shirt collar and snaps, and hooded footed rompers.
Which fabric suits a women's bodysuit?
Cotton spandex, rib knit, or modal, because they are knits with good recovery; without spandex, the bodysuit sags at the underarms and the crotch. Test the crosswise stretch against the pattern before cutting. For a high neck, rib knit passes over the head best and returns to its shape.
Does a jumpsuit pattern work for any fabric?
No. A jumpsuit pattern is designed for one fabric family: in crepe or linen the leg falls loose, in corduroy or gabardine it holds its structure, and in faux leather it shows the crotch line. If you change the fabric, make a sample and check the rise and the torso length before cutting the run.
