Frequently asked questions

How do I print PDF patterns without losing scale?

Set printing to 100% or "actual size", never "fit to page". Print the control square sheet first, measure it with a ruler and confirm that it matches the stated size before printing the rest.

What is the control square for?

It is a printed square of known size used to check that the printer did not shrink or enlarge the file. If the square measures what it says, the whole pattern is at true size; if not, fix the print settings and print again.

What should I ask the print shop for when printing on a plotter?

Printing at 100% scale, without fitting to the roll width, on the width stated on the product page of the pattern (90, 120 or 150 cm). It is the most common mistake: many print shops rescale by default to make use of the paper.

Can I print an A4 PDF pattern on Letter or Legal paper?

Yes, as long as the scale stays at 100%. The pattern comes out the same: only the number of sheets and the way the cuts of the numbered grid are distributed change.
